Passing the Torch Over

Another use for a Go-Pro: banner-raising. Thanks to Yahoo Sports, Aaron Brenner and the LA Kings.

I'll just make this pretty short. Today is the day every Solar Bears fan has been anticipating since the Turner Cup was last lifted: raising the banner. Almost 12 years since the Bears clinched the Turner Cup, fans, many of whom were at that game, were left to disappointment when Rich Devos left the Solar Bears out to dry (we all have our paths).

Now, back with new ownership, one of their big promises was to honor this championship team and up to this point, they haven't disappoint. Getting the championship banner, Scott McKenzie making a cameo (thanks to the lockout, we may not get to see any of the old players), and as far as getting the actual trophy back in Orlando for one last go-around. Hopefully, this ceremony will remind the current players what wearing a Solar Bears sweater means, what the fans expect, and coming together to raise another banner.

Now, I'll end in this great video I found in reliving the 2001 Turner Cup Champions.

  1. Great Video.... I was impressed with the ceremony. I didn't think they be able to get many of the old player in for it. Everyone is either playing or coaching. There was one 2001 TC player in attendance tonight... But he went home unhappy.
